Butte College is pleased to announce the appointment of Randy Maday as the interim director of kinesiology and athletics, effective July 1, 2024. Maday will be stepping into the role vacated by Melody Stockwell, who served as the director from 2021 to 2024. After three academic years at Butte College, she felt it was time to return to Southern California to be closer to family and pursue other opportunities.
Maday brings a wealth of experience and a long history to the position. His extensive background at Butte College includes roles as a law enforcement academy instructor, firefighter academic instructor, kinesiology instructor, health instructor, physical education activity instructor, and coach. Maday also served multiple terms as the chair of the kinesiology department, most recently in the 2019-2020 academic year.
Before joining Butte College, Maday played football at Los Medanos College (1983-1984) and Chico State (1985-1986). He furthered his coaching career as the head freshman football coach at Chico State and then as a graduate assistant at the University of Oregon. In 1991, Maday was hired as an assistant football coach and offensive coordinator at Butte College, where he coached for five seasons before becoming a full-time faculty member in 1995.
The College will begin a national recruitment for a permanent athletic director in early 2025.
“We are confident that Randy’s extensive experience and long history at Butte College make him perfectly suited to lead the department,” said Butte College Superintendent/President Virginia Guleff. “We thank him for his leadership and willingness to step into this role.”
